Privacy Policy

The purpose of this policy is to tell you how The Richmond Bar Association (“RBA”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information. Protecting the privacy and security of our members’ personal information is very important to us. Please read this notice carefully to understand what the RBA does with the personal information we collect both online and offline.

What We Collect

When you join the Richmond Bar Association or contact us, any personal information you provide is voluntary. In most cases, we collect limited personal information, such as name, address, telephone number, or email address to process your membership, include you in our member directory, and register you for events and seminars. We also collect certain biographical information such as the school(s) you attended, the areas of law in which you practice, and the size of your firm. Any credit card information gathered for payment purposes is immediately destroyed and is not kept on file.

What We Share

Except as described below, the Richmond Bar Association does not rent, sell, or otherwise share your personal information with third parties. We do:

  • Publish a membership directory for our members’ professional use only (and note that members are not to use it for any other purpose).
  • Permit use of our mailing list by law firms who are members of the RBA for the purpose of sending professional notices to other members. We do not rent lists for any other purpose.

 

Updating or Deleting Your Personal Information

If you wish to request updates/modifications to the personal information we have on file for you, please call the Bar office at (804) 780-0700, use the membership directory to modify your record or send an e-mail to SPotter@richmondbar.org. If you wish to have your information permanently removed from our records, please call the Bar office at (804) 780-0700 or send an e-mail to SPotter@richmondbar.org. Please be aware that while we will make all reasonable efforts to remove your information from our databases upon your request, any information which was already printed once membership directories have been printed and distributed, the hard copies of the directory are no longer under our control.

Data Storage and Security

Our e-mail is encrypted and SSL Secure and stored on a server in our office in Richmond, Virginia.

Updates to this Policy

If you have provided us with an email address, we will notify you by email of any material changes to this policy. If you have not provided an email address, you will want to return to this page each time you submit information to us, to review our then-current policy.
